It was built in 1835-1836, and started as an unpretentious double log cabin. In 1874, it was remodeled to its present form by General Alfred Beckley (1802–1888), founder of the city of Beckley. It was restored in the 1970s.[2] The house is open as the Wildwood House Museum.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.[1]
